PR600 Consumables

PR600 Consumables

Bobbin type: CBrother PR-600 Bobbin Enclosureoates Style L 100% Spun PolyesterCoates Bobbins Box

We bought some pre-wound bobbins (always use pre wound bobbins for best results) with the machine and also some needles.  After spending £5000 on the machine you would have thought that the dealer might have given us a good deal, especially as the machine was even delivered direct from Brother.  You don't buy a PR 600 and just sew out a couple of things a year, you tend to use the machines a lot so will use consumables a lot too.  We were charged a pound a bobbin for Coates brand (the best bobbins available and recommended by Brother).  We now buy them by the box of 144 for around £25.00 + VAT or 5p each!  Guess where we will not be going back to for more bobbins!

The bobbin fits in a metal cartridge and is easy to change.  The PR600 detects when it runs out and stops sewing so you can just leave it in there.  We use one bobbin for around 40 to 50,000 stitches.

Needle Type: HAX 130 EBBR Gunold Organ or Schmetz 130/75 H-EBrother PR600 Needles

We have used both types of needles but cannot really tell the difference between the two brands either in quality or how long they last.  They are easy to fit and it is best to change all six at once.  They only fit one way so you can't really get it wrong.

Needle Life
Needles tend to last about 2 weeks, but this will depend on the material you are embroidering onto.  Denim will shorten the life of your needles considerably, pique material like polo shirts will not wear your needles quite as much.

Changing the Needles
Brother provide you with a special screwdriver and needle grip to make changing needles easy.  It is best to change all six needles together, and the shank of the needle has a D profile which means that you are simply unable to insert them incorrectly!
